Driving Consumers From the Pumps to the Aisles

The days when a gas station was a place where a customer could only purchase gas are long gone. If you are operating a gas station, you are probably also offering a number of other products to your customer including snacks. If you want to increase sales for your business, you need to anticipate what your customers’ needs are and meet them.
Simply providing fuel is not enough. Your competition is working hard to establish long-term relationships with customers so that they will make a point of revisiting their gas stations. If you want to stay in business, you will need to do the same. How can you drive them from the pumps to the aisles of your store?
Start with a well laid-out floor plan. Make sure that your customer has to walk passed some merchandise displays before reaching the cash register. The items that you put directly in front of them must be especially appealing. For example, place cold drinks and an assortment of snack items in this area.
If your establishment is in a location that caters to drivers who are likely to be making long distance trips, make sure maps are available for purchase as well as a pack of gum or a cup of coffee for the road.
Part of enhancing your customer’s experience is increasing the ease and convenience with which they pay for their gas and other merchandise. One way you can do that is by offering your customers gas credit cards.
If you are able offer an incentive when opening a gas credit card account, you will encourage your customers to use it more frequently. Your clientele may include a number of business customers who need to purchase gas for their fleet of vehicles. Offer them the option of getting fleet credit cards for their drivers to use for business purposes.
This idea will appeal to a business owner for many reasons. One benefit of a fleet credit card is it makes record keeping much easier for company accounting staff. Once a card has been purchased, a detailed record is kept of purchasing history including frequency of refueling and the type of transaction that occurred on the account.
The other reason why gas credit cards are beneficial to businesses is that they qualify for better rates on gasoline purchasing. The combination of convenience and preferred pricing will help boost your sales from business customers and as long as customers are in your store, they will likely browse through the aisles as well!
